F/W 2020-21 FASHION TRENDS: DETAILS

 TENDENZE MODA A/I 2020-21: DETTAGLI

-ITA-

Un'allure all over tutta borghese
  • Balze

At first glance streetwear's footprint is a closed chapter: designers have recreated the concept of femininity

A woman who follows more bourgeois stylistic codes does so by choice and not to lock themselves into predefined stereotypes.
The idea of feminine takes form through various traditional sartorial coats, pleated or midi skirts, bon ton collars and silk blouses. A look to the past but with a contemporary filter: baby shoes by Gucci are worn with transparent shirts, the coat has important shoulders (is the '80s power woman back?) and are worn with a Max Mara mini dress.
Elegance is shown through a smoking jacket (worn with vinyl pants from Versace) and from very long tassels that touch the floor, showing all their wavy beauty, time after time, as shown by Daniel Lee at Bottega Veneta. And so, a century after the "roaring '20s", designers have interpreted the glamor that characterized speakeasy fashion.
Elegance and femininity, rigor in the forms and preciousness of the fabrics, these are the keywords that define fashion for Fall Winter 2020 2021.
  • Slouchy Boots
  • Keep it slouchy with these funky boots. Sitting just below the knee and crumpled with every step, this footwear looks great during the colder months. Whether you prefer a warm shade of cream or you’re into off-white, you can up the ante of every outfit. Compliment the pale hue with a white T-shirt or button-down under a coat – make them stand out with a black dress and oversized blazer.
  • Statement Collars
  • Power suits might have been huge for SS20, but this season that sartorial energy can be found elsewhere – namely in a statement shirt or a super-sized collar. Pink shirt collars were tucked in at Emilia Wickstead, and the mood was similarly studious at Preen by Thornton Bregazzi, where gargantuan blue collars spilled over checked suiting. However, it was a different story at Bottega Veneta, where Kaia Gerber positively oozed insouciance, sashaying down the runway in a black, slimline suit layered over an acid-green shirt, complete with extra-long cuffs and an open, oversized collar. One part Saturday Night Fever, another ’90s hedonism, this singular look has sent statement shirts straight to the top of our wish list.
  • Extreme fringing
  • The common thread of the Dior, Jil Sander and Prada shows was a display of long, fine fringing that unraveled to allow three distinct silhouettes to shine through: the night bird at Jil Sander, the powerful and liberated businesswoman at Prada, and the bohemian schoolgirl at Dior.
  • Capes
  • More than a trend… a recurrence. What's new for winter? An all-over, utterly bourgeois allure
  • Ruffles
  • With a season steeped in romantic influences, frills are making their inevitable comeback. Whether on modern shirts or in the form of a refined bib with aristocratic airs, this pretty detail is enough to make any silhouette shine.
  • New shoulders
  • The leitmotif of the season, strong shoulders are making their big comeback. Dethroning rounded and square forms, triangular shapes now reign supreme - for a truly on-point look.
  • Bodycon
  • For FW20, designers across the board ventured into territory that felt refreshingly new – experimenting with ‘sexy’, in sartorial terms. The result? Bodycon is back, but not as you know it. Crucially, the color palette is limited to monochrome, and the silhouettes are also markedly different. At Brandon Maxwell we saw floor-sweeping, long-sleeved dresses that felt both modern and minimalist, while Proenza Schouler and Saint Laurent took the look a step further, debuting styles with cut-outs or crafted entirely from vinyl. Ultimately, what sets these bodycon dresses apart from their predecessors is that, rather than appealing to the male gaze, these pieces are made to instil the women wearing them with confidence, glamour and agency.

  8. Hello Silvia, I hope you had a great week and that the co vid situation is not totally out of control in Italy and that you and your family are all safe and sound!

I really like the trend you picked for this week, I don't know it is a trend itself but I feel that lately there is a revamp or classical silhouettes that are managing to mix modern details of contemporary fashion with the crucial aspects of classical pieces like many of those that appear in the post.

There is also an important effort to reinforce the concept of femminity through many resources that goes out of the classical conception and I really like that, since now the options are not the obvious and you can explore many other options as a fashion consumer!

Excited to see how you style the trend!
