OOTD: How To Wear a Polo in S/S 2020

Ebbene, dopo tanti anni si scopre che la polo non era finita affatto nel dimenticatoio: si stava preparando per un ritorno trionfante. 

Ma dimenticate le semplici magliette in piqué e quelle che in generale amano indossare i nostri papà, la polo ha subito un serio cambio di rotta e ora non vede l'ora di infiltrarsi in ogni guardaroba.

Ecco allora alcuni modi per indossare la polo che non facciano subito pensare alla noia sartoriale.

• Con i bottoni aperti
• A meno che non facciate parte di una cover band indie, il colletto della polo dovrebbe essere aperto di default. E non è nemmeno una mossa stilistica così inaspettata, in molti casi sono state riproposte proprio senza bottoni sul colletto. Il bello di questa piccola modifica è che semplicemente togliendogli i bottoni si è svecchiato tutto il look della classica polo. Ciò che rimane invariato invece è quel tocco di stile Riviera casual ma chic. Comunque per mantenere le cose più regolari quando la indossate, cercate un modello con una vestibilità abbastanza aderente. Infatti il colletto tenderà a scivolare verso il basso e quindi a sembrare floscio se la polo ha troppo tessuto in più.
• Con il Tailleur
• In un epoca in cui l’athleisure domina, il tailleur rappesenta un po’ l’altro lato della medaglia. Ed una polo è proprio l’elemento giusto per dare al completo sartoriale un twist moderno ed inaspettato. Presi singolarmente, l'abito e la polo sono parti piuttosto standard di un certo tipo di stile, ma insieme sono un classico esempio di come l'utilizzo di pezzi esistenti in modo creativo può davvero fare la differenza. Sfruttare questi vantaggi è piuttosto semplice. A partire da un completo (anche con i Bermuda), basta indossare una polo al posto della camicia o del top. È difficile sbagliare anche sul colore poiché una polo che imiti la sfumatura del tailleur funzionerà facilmente tanto quanto una tinta a contrasto. Assicuratevi però che pantaloni, polo e giacca abbiano comunque qualcosa di diverso tra loro. Potete ad es provare ad abbinare un paio di pantaloni color crema, un blazer taupe e una polo pastello, con sandali marroni per un look estivo elegante ma alla moda.

So, forget plain piques and your slogan stag do numbers, the polo shirt’s done some serious shape shifting and now can’t wait to infiltrate every aspect of your wardrobe. Again.

Here are many ways to wear a polo shirt without inducing sartorial narcolepsy.

• Lose The Buttons
• Unless you’re in some indie tribute band, the collar on your polo shirt should be open by default. Confusingly, the open collar polo shirt isn’t a styling move, it’s fashion speak for a design with no buttons at its collar at all. The beauty of this simple modification is that the subtraction of buttons stop the polo shirt from emitting “old times” vibes. What you’re left with is just a dose of Riviera style. To keep things looking suitably sharp when wearing, look for open collar designs with a fit that’s on the fitted side, mind. The collar will sag if your polo shirt’s packing too much fabric.
• Mix And Match With A Suit
• In the age of athleisure, the suit’s a bit the conterpart. But a polo shirt is just the thing to give tailoring a new lick of metaphorical paint. Taken individually, the suit and polo shirt are pretty standard parts of a sartorial line-up, but together they’re a classic example of how using your existing pieces in inventive ways can reap rewards. Cashing in on these benefits is pretty simple. Starting with a suit (even Bermuda suit), simply wear a polo shirt in place of your shirt or top. It’s hard to go wrong on colour too as a tonal polo shirt which mimics the shade of your suit will work just as easily as a contrast design. If you want go advanced though, make sure your trousers, polo shirt and blazer are all bringing something different to the table. Try, for ex., teaming a pair of cream trousers, a taupe blazer and a pastel polo shirt together, then slip into some brown sandals for the perfect smart but stylish summer look.
