LOOKS: That Boring Polo Shirt That Prada Is Backing for Summer 2020

Miuccia Prada ha una straordinaria capacità di prendere un capo trascurato o noioso e trasformarlo immediatamente in uno degli oggetti più ricercati dell'anno. 
E per il 2020, il pezzo che ha ricevuto il suo tocco magico è stata la polo: nelle sue collezioni P / E 20, le modelle indossavano polo a maniche corte e lunghe o anche a costine sottili con quasi tutto. 

Erano abbinate a tailleur pantalone e gonna, gonne in pelle e pantaloni a zampa, ecc. dimostrando che una polo può essere protagonista anche di un guardaroba elegante, e rimuovendone al contempo tutte le connotazioni che richiamavano campi da rugby e/o campi da golf. 

Queste polo non hanno loghi appariscenti o stampe sgargianti. Se hanno i bottoni, sono piccoli e discreti e l'uso di maglieria e cashmere le fa apparire particolarmente chic. 
La chiave è cercare una maglia a nido d'ape, a costine sottili o un cotone in una tavolozza di colori tenui, per esempio in blu uovo di pettirosso, marrone, verde salvia o rosa salmone.
Non sorprende che molti negozi di high street abbiano subito cavalcato questa tendenza, e si trovavano polo già mesi fa da & Other Stories, Zara, Monki e M&S, e così via ...
Ma vediamo dunque come trovare la polo perfetta.

• Con le righe
• Nonostante la discrezione vada comunque per la maggiore, anche le polo sono state sottoposte al trattamento anti-minimalista che molti designer hanno adottato: ed ecco le coloratissime polo a righe che annunciano con orgoglio la loro presenza. Queste polo in realtà potrebbero non sembrare tra le scelte più semplici, ma se trovate quella giusta il vostro outfit sarà notato per tutte le migliori ragioni. Per fortuna, una cosa qui è sicura: le righe sono la scommessa più affidabile in questo momento. Le polo vivaci e con righe in color blocking sono l’elemento giusto per suscitare interesse e possono essere abbinate a pantaloncini, jeans, scarpe da ginnastica e sandali senza troppi sforzi.  Comunque, per assicurarvi di scoraggiare acrobazie ottiche, abbinatele ad un paio di jeans o shorts senza pretese in lavaggio chiaro e semplici scarpe da ginnastica bianche.
• Andate oltre i colori chiari
• Magari iniziate pure con una polo celeste polvere, bianca o lavanda, ma invece di fiondarvi subito su altri capi scuri da abbinarci, provate piuttosto con un paio di shorts crema o bianchi ed ai piedi dei sandali in pelle eleganti.  Come regola generale, tenete presente che più scura è la vostra carnagione, più chiari sono i toni che potete indossare: tenetelo presente quando scegliete un polo. Ma se siete pallide e volete comunque indossare una polo bianca, magari abbinata anche ad altre tonalità chiare, ricordate che un paio di pantaloni o una gonna color sabbia aggiungerà abbastanza contrasto da render il look chic e stiloso.
• Fate caso al piping
• Il Piping (una volta esclusiva delle divise scolastiche inglesi) ha dato alle polo quel twist tanto necessario quanto delicato. Nonostante sia un concetto piuttosto semplice, i profili sul colletto e sui polsini della polo offrono un grande impatto dal punto di vista ottico. Annuendo allo stile “old school”, il piping dà un tocco di eleganza ad un look casual e vi assicura di distinguervi in un mare top tutti uguali.  E c'è di più: le polo con il piping si abbinano tanto facilmente con i pantaloncini o le gonne come con i jeans e possono essere indossate infilate dentro o fuori la cinta come meglio credete. Scegliete il classico stile blu o bianco per sfoggiare uno stile estivo super chic.

Miuccia Prada has an amazing ability to take an overlooked or boring item and instantly turn it into one of the most sought-after items of the year. For 2020, the piece that is receiving her magic touch is the polo shirt, as in her S/S 20 collections, models wore long-sleeved polo tops or fine-ribbed knits with almost everything. 

They were paired with skirt suits, trouser suits, leather skirts and flared trousers, showing that a polo shirt can be a hero item in a smart wardrobe, removing all connotations of rugby fields and Floridian golf courses.

These polo shirts don't have flashy logos or garish prints. If they have buttons, they are small and understated, and the use of knitwear and cashmere makes them feel particularly elevated. The key is to look for waffle knits, fine-ribbed knits or cotton in a muted colour palette, in duck-egg blue, brown, sage green and salmon pink, for example.

• Seek Out Stripes
• Polo shirts too have been given the anti-subtlety treatment with plenty of designs loudly and proudly announcing their presence. Bold polo shirts offer a mixed bag, but choose the right one and your outfit will be noticed for all the right reasons. Thankfully, the prescription here is clear: stripes are your most reliable bet. Bold, block stripe polo shirts are just the thing to raise interest and can be paired with shorts, jeans, trainers and sandals without too much effort. Then, to make sure that you’re discouraging optical acrobatics, wear an unassuming pair of light wash dad jeans and simple white trainers.
• Go Beyond The Pale
• Start with a baby blue, white or lavender polo shirt, then instead of instinctively grounding the look with dark bottoms, try cream or white bottoms instead, and at your feet a pair of chic leather sandals. As a rule of thumb, the darker your complexion the lighter the tones you can pull off, so you’ll need to bear this in mind when picking a polo. If you’re paler and do want to rock a white polo teamed with light shades, a pair of sand pants or skirt will add enough contrast to proceedings.
• Pick Out Piping
• Piping (once seen exclusive on school uniforms) has given polo shirts a much-needed adrenaline shot. Despite being a pretty simple concept, piping at the collar and cuffs of your polo shirt offers a big impact wardrobe-wise. Nodding to old-school style, piping will simultaneously smarten up off-duty looks and make sure you stand out in a sea of identikit dressers.  Even better, piped polo shirts know how to play nice, so they’ll pair equally as easily with shorts as they will jeans and can be worn tucked or untucked as you see fit. Choose a navy or white style to riff on chic summer style.
