Travel Blog: Cordoba & Granada

Dopo Siviglia le due cittadine dell’Andalusia che mi sono piaciute di più sono state Cordova e Granada: entrambe si somigliano un po’ed hanno più o meno gli stessi monumenti da vedere (l’Alcazar (ovvero quello che una volta era il palazzo reale dell’emiro) –l’ahlambra per Granada- la Moschea/cattedrale, i patii ed i palzzi di inflenza araba ), quindi spero di non aver fatto confusione con le foto.

After Seville the two towns of Andalusia that I liked the most are Cordoba and Granada: both look a bit alike and have more or less the same monuments to see (the Alcazar (what was once the royal palace of the 'emiro) - the ahlambra for Granada - the Mosque / cathedral and the Arab influences) so I hope I have not made confusion with the photos.

Comunque la distinzione maggiore sta nel fatto che Granada ha un aspetto più”medievale” rispetto a Cordova, che invece risulta più arabeggiante (e nella quale potete trovare gioielli di stampo arabo meravigliosi a prezzi bassissimi).

Comunque in queste, come in praticamente tutte le città ed i paesi dell’andalusia, c’è una tale commistione di generi, epoche e stili che alla fine risulta davvero molto difficile cercare di descrivere quale sia l’impronta generale.

However, the major distinction lies in the fact that Granada has a more "medieval" aspect than Cordova, which instead is more Arabic (and in which you can find wonderful Arabic jewelry at very low prices).
However in these, as in practically all the Andalusian cities and towns, there is such a mixture of genres, eras and styles that in fact it is rather difficult try to describe what the general imprint is.

Quello che mi ha stupita più è stato piuttosto il fatto che molte delle opere che credevo antiche ma ben restaurate (come l’alcazar di Cordova) sono invece  di fattura recente, alcune addirittura risalenti agli anni 60 e 70.

In ogni caso in entrambe le città si respira un’atmosfera davvero particolare, diversa da Siviglia (che è più ricca ed elegante) e molto più vicina al gusto arabo che a quello tipicamente europeo.

What surprised me most is rather the fact that many of the works that I thought were ancient but well restored (like the garden of the alcazar of Cordova) are instead of recent construction, some even dating back to the 60s and 70s.
In any case, both cities have a very special atmosphere, different from Seville (which is richer and more elegant) and much closer to the Arabian than to the european one.
