OOTD: How to dress like a French woman

-ITA-

Parisian girls seems to have it all – have y’all ever noticed that? The effortless, cool girl look that is just as sophisticated as it is laidback.
And, they all seem totally confident in their attitude. Well, let’s face it, it’s all about comfort and confidence.
It’s about mixing high with low, and rocking it because you know you look totally fab.
After some serious examination of Parisian style icons like Isabel Marant and Emmanuelle Alt, the editor-in-chief of Vogue Paris  and all the street style,

I’ve figured out what makes French-Girl style so timelessly…amazing!

  • Think in a neutral palette
  • For the most part, French women dress in a grown-up neutral palette of black, white, beige, blue and brown, and add pops of color to their look with accessories—say a red handbag or a brightly patterned scarf. It makes mixing and matching from within your closet pretty effortless, not to mention sticking within this palette makes it hard to make a fashion mistake. And if French women do go for strong colours, they tend to pick one or two tonal shades rather than vibrant clashes.
  • Have a signature pair of shoes
  • you don’t need a thousand pairs of shoes to look fabulous, you just need two or three really great pairs to get the job done. In the words of Coco Chanel: “A woman with good shoes is never ugly!” It’s a sentiment that’s hard to argue with.
  • Investment shop when building your closet
  • A big part of why French women get it so right, so often, is that they tend to investment shop rather than buying into trends. Save up for the pieces that you know you’ll have for life—that Hermès scarf, a Chanel bouclé jacket, or a string of Mikimoto pearls, if that’s your style. It might seem like a big investment, but divided over a lifetime of wear, a big-ticket purchase that you love can actually turn out to be a value when compared with an endless string of disposable purchases.
  • Don't fear slouchy clothes
  • A key lesson to learn from French style is that clothes don't have to be totally form-fitting and menswear inspired pieces can look just as flattering. The french are fans of loose fitting comfy shirts and tops. Part of the effortless cool seems to come from not caring if every single item of clothing shows off your best features, but thinking about how the overall look works.  For example, low-rise loose jeans and a baggy shirt might make your waist disappear and do nothing for your bum, but this outfit will highlight the wrists, ankles and collarbone, and just looks more cool than a tight fitting dress.

Auguri carissima oggi, e ogni altro giorno!
    Saluti,

  11. Thank you, my dear. Yes, at last! It's about time. Here in Portugal there are some shops, but all away from where I live... Now, although I can not stretch in my spending (I explain in today's post why), I can always be aware of the news!

Your look is fabulous. I love the mix of textures and patterns. You look so, but so good in berets. I love the trend! You always rock in any look!

  17. Beautiful outfit in French style, in particular the pink beret! When it comes to French style I love the style of Emmanuelle Beart and Juliette Binoche from the older movies... Everyday I watch France24 in English and I always pay the attention of the style of the journalists ha , ha! Have to admit the men are very elegant there in France :-)
