Clowns and ballerinas...

Le fotografie di David LaChapelle sono sempre caratterizzate da colori vivacissimi e contrastanti e da atmosfere così surreali che richiamano molto l'immaginario del mondo circense.
Tuttavia le foto che ho deciso di pubblicare oggi le ho scelte perchè mostrano una rappresentazione molto originale dei personaggi che popolano questo mondo: clown, acrobati e ballerine  vengono decontestualizzati e inseriti in ambienti estranei al loro.
L'effetto finale è sempre molto forte ed in qualche modo anche un pò decadente, ma decisamente insolito!

David LaChapelle's photographs are always characterized by bright and contrasting colors and by atmospheres so much surreal that you you can easily recall the imaginary world of the circus. 

However, the photos I decided to post today show the characters that populate this world in a very original way: clowns, acrobats and dancers are placed in unfamiliar context to them. 

The final effect is always very strong and somehow even a little decadent, but definitely unusual!

Visto che questa settimana parliamo di colori, come non citare colui che ha rivoluzionato l'uso del colore nella fotografia?
Naturalmente sto parlando di David LaChapelle: le sue immagini risultano sempre straordinariamente forti e d'impatto grazie al mix tra colori saturati e brillanti e alle pose surreali: citarlo era d'obbligo, non credete? :)

David LaChapelle ha iniziato ad interessarsi alla fotografia fin dal liceo.

All'età di 18 anni, alla fine degli anni '70, si trasferisce dalla Carolina del Nord al Lower East Side di New York.

Dopo l'incontro con Andy Warhol, inizia a collaborare con Interview, che lui stesso definisce "art school".

Vent'anni dopo David LaChapelle è ancora qui.

David LaChapelle began taking photographs in high school. 

At the age of 18, at the end of the 70s, he moved from North Carolina to New York's Lower East Side. 

After a chance meeting with Andy Warhol, he began shooting for Interview, the place he calls "art school."

Lui è il prodotto della gioventù degli anni 70: periferia, fumo, e un talento per appropriarsi della vita fantastica dei film. 

L'influenza è evidente. LaChapelle celebra l'artificiale e lo rende addirittura bello.

Le sue pubblicazioni includono due libri: LaChapelle Land e Hotel LaChapelle.

He is a product of 70s youth, sub-divisions, suburbia, pot-smoking, and a knack for appropriating a fantasy life onto film.

The influence is apparent. LaChapelle celebrates the artificial, he even makes it beautiful.

David LaChapelle's work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally. 

His publications include two books: LaChapelle Land and Hotel LaChapelle.
