OOTD: Bows Are The Latest Nostalgia-Fueled Trend To Take Over Fashion

 I Fiocchi: L'ultimo Trend-Nostalgia Che ha Preso d'Assalto La Moda

Spesso associati alle ballerine di danza classica, alle scolaresche e ai look di bambina, i fiocchi e i ricami sono un segno di giovinezza. 

Ed in quanto tali, vengono spesso considerati frivoli. 

Ma in passato il motivo del fiocco era una componente necessaria del vestire. 

Si pensi, ad esempio, al Medioevo, quando i fiocchi venivano utilizzati nell'abbigliamento femminile e maschile per tenere a posto i capi.

Il motivo è nato con uno scopo funzionale, ma ha assunto una duplice ragion d’essere: i fiocchi vengono tutt’ora usati per legare qualcosa, ma sono anche decorativi. 

Infatti, nel corso del XVIII e XIX secolo, il fiocco ha perso gran parte del suo scopo pratico ed ha iniziato ad esser utilizzato sempre più come status symbol. 

Vedi: Maria Antonietta, la giovane arciduchessa diventata regina, il cui parrucchiere avrebbe speso 20.000 franchi per i nastri ricamati per i suoi capelli. 

Fiocchi e ricami continuarono a essere un ornamento presente nella moda per tutto il XX secolo. 

La principessa Diana era un'appassionata di top con il fiocco o di papillon, mentre Madonna indossava fiocchi come parte dei suoi costumi di scena. 

Un decennio dopo, il motivo plissettato è tornato in auge nell'alta moda grazie all'iconica sfilata di Chanel per l'Autunno/Inverno 1995, dove fiocchi neri di raso venivano utilizzati come accessori per capelli. 

E da allora questo ornamento è apparso sempre più spesso sulle passerelle.

Often associated with ballet dancers, school girls, and playing dress-up, bows and embroideries are a signifier of youth. 

As such, they are often deemed frivolous. 

But, back in the day, the bow motif was a utilitarian component of style. 

Take, for example, the Middle Ages when bows were used in women’s and men’s clothing to keep garments in place. 

It started with a functional purpose, but it takes on a two-fold purpose, where bows [are used] to tie something together, but it is also decorative. 

They're part of this youthful prime of your life... a fashion statement associated with femininity.

Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, the bow served less of a practical purpose and was used as a status symbol. 

See: Marie Antionette, the young archduchess-turned-queen, whose hairdresser allegedly spent 20,000 francs on her hair embroidered ribbons. 

Bows and embroideries continued to be an adornment featured in fashion throughout the 20th century. Princess Diana was an enthusiast for a pussy bow top or a bow tie, while Madonna wore bows as part of her performance costumes. 

A decade later, the pleated motif returned to style favor in a high-fashion way thanks to Chanel’s iconic Fall/Winter 1995 show featuring satin black bows as hair accessories. 

The adornment has since frequently appeared on the runways.
