 Come Indossare Lo Stile Indie Sleaze

Sebbene la moda abbia sempre amato le rockstar, questo amore non è sempre stato reciproco. 

Anche durante gli anni dell'indie sleaze, era considerato un po' superficiale per un artista concentrarsi così tanto sul proprio guardaroba. 

Gli artisti "autentici" non erano interessati a qualcosa di così mainstream come la moda. 

Come anche lo scisma che esisteva tra i punk "seri" e i performer che non ammettevano nessuna mescolanza con gli hipster alla moda o con look da photoshooting. 

Ora le etichette sono diventate meno importanti e non si è più così ossessionati dal controllo dell'autenticità.

I musicisti seri possono abbracciare tranquillamente lo stile indie sleaze e nessuno batterà ciglio.

Inclusivo, strutturato, riflessivo e personale: questi sono i tratti distintivi dell'ideale post-twee, post-sleaze e post-punk. 

Anche se, a dirla tutta, per molti versi, i look artigianali, dalle tonalità più chiare e giocose hanno più a che fare con le grandi “riot grrrl” che con lo stile da festival di massa del 2010.

Come in un gioco l'influenza è andata avanti e indietro tra moda e musica, scambiando concetti, idee e guadagnando slancio. Giusto in tempo per la Rock Girl Summer 2023.

Though fashion has always loved rock stars, that love wasn’t always mutual. 

Even during the OG indie sleaze years, it was considered a bit shallow for a performer to focus heavily on their wardrobe. 

“Authentic” artists weren’t interested in something as mainstream as fashion. 

Like also the schism that existed between “serious” punks and performers who didn’t want to “cross-pollinate” with the fashionable hipsters or camera-ready scenesters. 

Now labels have become less important, and gatekeepers aren’t as obsessed with checking the authenticity box. 

Serious musicians can embrace indie sleaze style and no one will blink an eye.

Inclusive, textured, thoughtful, and personal—these are the hallmarks of the post-twee, post-sleaze, post-punk ideal. 

Even if, in many ways, the craft-focused, lighter-hued, and playfully looks have more to do with the riot grrrl greats than with mass-marketed festival style circa 2010. 

Like a game, the influence has been passed back and forth between fashion and music, swapping concepts, trading ideas, and gaining momentum. 

Just in time for Rock Girl Summer 2023.
