BEAUTY: Everything You Need to Know About Korean Skincare Routine

Korean skincare: I’ve never really tried it before cause it seemed to me too troublesome and complicated, then I’ve suddenly had all this extra time and I sayd: now or never!
So in no time I became addicted to it. If you try it's easy to see why the weird-but-wonderful Korean hacks and 10-step skincare methods are all the rage. But where do we even start if we want in on the K-skicare?
It may sound extensive, but seems that most Korean women use an 8 and 10-step skincare routine each and every day to help keep their skin looking healthy and beautiful and their effort does not go unnoticed – these women take pride in knowing they have some of the best skin in the world!

These are the key steps for morning:

  • Step 1: Wash with water
  • First thing in the morning, cleanse your skin with only water, not cleanser. Water removes the few impurities that settle on the face during the night, and keeps skin hydrated, too.
  • Step 2: Toner
  • To balance the skin's pH levels, it's important to apply toner; otherwise the skin can become dry and dehydrated. Toner further helps to absorb the next products you apply.
  • Step 3: Essence
  • Essence is a hybrid between a toner and a serum. It works perfectly to hydrate the complexion, aiding cellular turnover for a youthful appearance.
  • Step 4: Ampoule
  • Really I don’t use them since I’ve never got. But they’re similar to serums and actually comprise an even higher number of active ingredients to target specific skin care concerns. They're used for a finite amount of time as a booster when your skin badly needs the extra help.
  • Step 5: Serum
  • Concentrated formulas with an unprecedented amount of active ingredients, serums target specific skin concerns like wrinkles, dark spots, and dehydration.
  • Step 6: Eye cream
  • Smooth a light eye cream across both the brow and socket bone moving from the inner to outer corner of the eye. Here, the skin is at its thinnest as there are no sebaceous glands to produce natural oils, so it's important to keep this area hydrated and protected all day long.
  • Step 7: Moisturiser
  • Next apply a soothing moisturiser in a light layer across the skin for long lasting all-day hydration.
  • Step 8: Sunscreen
  • Applying sunscreen shouldn't be reserved for the summer holidays. Protecting the skin on a daily basis from UV rays will avoid the development of dark spots, wrinkles and fine lines.
THE KOREAN WAY TO SIMPLIFY IT
However, if you are new to the idea of a Korean skincare routine, it can be a little intimidating, like I was when I ‘ve started to hear of this routine initially. "So I’ve found a condensed version of the classic 10-step regime saves time and still yields amazing results
  1. Wash with water
  2. Toner
  3. Serum/Ampoule
  4. Eye Cream
  5. Moisturiser with SPF

While the full routine for night:

  • Step 1: Oil-based cleanser
  • For the evening, select an oil based cleanser to start with as this will work to remove oil- based makeup and impurities from the skin.
  • Step 2: Double-cleansing
  • Following the oil cleanser, use a water-based cleanser to gently remove the oil residue and water-based impurities from the day.
  • Step 3: Exfoliate
  • Twice a week use a gentle enzyme or bead-based exfoliator to remove the dead skin cells that can make the complexion appear lack-lustre whilst blocking pores and preventing key product ingredient absorption
  • Step 4: Toner
  • Step 5: Essence
    Step 6: Ampoule
  • Step 7: Serum
  • Step 8: Sheet mask
  • The sheet mask is a Korean beauty favourite – a cloth saturated with skin loving ingredients! Perfect for all skin types, everyone can benefit from these masks which deliver a deeply hydrating and anti-ageing treatment.
  • Step 9: Eye cream
  • Step 10: Moisturiser

But to get to the point: does it work? Well I've been trying it for almost 3 weeks and I can say that I can actually see the results, and also in a short time.
Of course I don't know how much it depends on the fact that I am always at home, away from the smog and I don’t put on makeup since a month, but my skin has become visibly brighter and clearer.
Even my hateful frekles look way lighter right now!
All you have to do is to get used to the steps, that at the beginning may seem keeping you a lot of time, but once you’ve get carried away they become automatic and no longer weigh so much on the daily routine.
In short, I absolutely recommend it!

  8. I'm amazed there are so many steps - my skincare routine is very simple! I just cleanse and moisturise, and occasionally I use a face mask. I try do it once a week but don't always remember!

Hope that you are having a nice weekend :) It's a rainy day here - perfect weather for continuing to isolate at home!

  10. Great post and so easy to follow. I always find posts based on Korean skincare to be overly complicated. I love how effortless and to the point this is. I've been wanting to implement this into my own routine - more so at night than also during the morning. Just need to find a toner that doesn't react or dry out my skin!

  11. Hello
I think this routine is very complicated, but we now have all the time in the world, right ??? The K-beauty products are a success in the West because we know very little about Korea, we think it is an exotic country, and we find Koreans of exotic beauty and, therefore, we are curious about their beauty routine and about their products of beauty !! I think it was the best post I saw on the Korean beauty routine, very well explained Silvia !!

  13. I like Korean skin beauty and I see that you too! There are many interesting tips and hacks we can learn from Korean, and I must say they have the most beautiful skin you can spot out there....

Despite it has to do with gens, the caring they put into the daily skincare is magnificent. My skincare routine is not that long, I think is 6 steps more or less, depending on the day, and sometimes more if I decide to exfoliate and/or add a face mask. One of the things i haven't tried is the essence, I prefer serums since the concentration is more powerful, but I should give it a try.

I also like the seven method skin, where you apply 7 layers of light toner to super hydrate your face, have you tried it?! :)
