OOTD: Tartan Is Everywhere This Season!

Per me la gonna in tartan è un punto fermo del guardaroba. 

Nel corso degli anni ne ho accumulata una bella collezione, alcune mini, altre lunghe, tutte fedelmente tirate fuori nel momento in cui le temperature scendono.

Ma questa stagione la famosa stampa scozzese non è più esclusiva delle gonne a pieghe. 

Le recenti gallerie di street-style hanno mostrato il fascino del tartan su altri capi di abbigliamento, come camicie ai pantaloni sartoriali, ai cappotti oversize fino agli accessori. 

Indossato dalla testa ai piedi o come pezzo unico, il tartan (ma anche i quadrettati in generale) si vede ovunque in questo momento.

Sebbene sia comunemente associato ai mesi autunnali e invernali, quest'estate il tartan aveva già fatto un'apparizione inaspettata in versioni più leggere, con sfumature neon e pastello adatte alla stagione e stampate su chiffon vaporosi e cotoni morbidi, sotto forma di top e gonne.

Le passerelle dell'autunno/inverno 2025 però hanno mostrato tartan e plaid al loro meglio. 

A Londra, la collezione di Jawara Alleyne ha reimmaginato plaid e quadri, tenuti insieme da spille da balia fai da te. 

Talia Byre, nel frattempo, ha abbracciato il massimalismo con quadri contrastanti in blu, marrone e viola, mentre Burberry ha offerto stampe in abbondanza su gonne a pieghe, cappotti di lana double-face e trench foderati a quadri che richiamavano l'eredità del marchio.

Quando si tratta di abbinare le stampe di base, l'equilibrio è fondamentale. 

Abbinate un cappotto tartan oversize a pantaloni eleganti e sartoriali per un contrasto autunnale. Provate invece una mini a quadri classica con una maglia e stivali da motociclista per un tocco di classe, oppure optate per un look a quadretti su abiti sartoriali e sciarpe per qualcosa di più discreto.

For me, a tartan skirt is a non-negotiable wardrobe staple. 

Over the years, I’ve amassed a large collection – some mini and buckled at the waist, others lengthy and wrap-around – all faithfully pulled out the moment the temperature drops.

But this season, the punk-ish print isn’t exclusive to pleated skirts. 

Recent street-style galleries have shown tartan’s appeal when emblazoned across other items of clothing, like flannel shirts, tailored trousers, oversized coats and accessories. 

Worn head-to-toe or as a single statement piece, tartan (and checks, and plaid, for that matter) is everywhere right now.

Though commonly associated with the autumn and winter months, this summer, tartan made an unexpected appearance in lighter iterations, dashed with seasonally-appropriate neon and pastel hues and printed across wispy chiffons and soft cottons, taking form as tops and skirts. 

All of which could serve as layering pieces.

The autumn/winter 2025 runways showed tartans and plaids at their very best. 

In London, Jawara Alleyne’s collection reimagined plaids and checks, held together with DIY safety pins. Talia Byre, meanwhile, embraced maximalism with clashing checks in vivid blue, brown and purple, while Burberry offered prints in abundance, seen on pleated skirts, double-faced wool coats, and check-lined trenches that spoke to the brand’s heritage.

When it comes to styling the staple print, balance is key. 

Pair an oversized tartan coat with sleek, tailored trousers for an autumnal point of contrast. 

Try a classic plaid mini with a slouchy knit and biker boots for a bit of edge. 

Lean into layering and chuck a kilt over jeans or wrap a shirt around your waist – or embrace muted checks on tailored suiting and scarves for something more subtle.
