Non è un segreto che alcune persone, soprattutto le donne francesi, abbiano qualcosa di speciale che le fa apparire sofisticate indipendentemente da ciò che indossano. 

Alcuni lo chiamano je ne sais quoi, ma, ammettiamolo è una definizione fin troppo vaga. 

Una delle cose principali che spesso cerchiamo di capire è come fanno ad essere così eleganti, indipendentemente dal tempo. 

E finora quello che abbiamo capito è che tutte hanno un'arma segreta: un arsenale di capi base. 

In particolare, durante l'inverno indossano spessissimo dolcevita neri a collo alto.

E infatti non si può scorrere i social media senza notare questo capo d'abbigliamento autunnale e invernale (e per una buona ragione). 

Un maglione nero a collo alto si abbina praticamente a tutto. 

È quindi logico che questo capo sia diventato un punto fermo senza tempo nella mente degli amanti della moda di tutto il mondo, soprattutto quando non sanno cosa indossare in inverno. 

Ma mentiremmo se non ammettessimo che questo capo di base può essere, beh, un po' noioso. 

Infatti, proprio perché questa maglia è diventata sinonimo di basico per tutti i giorni, è diventato più difficile abbinarla in modo sofisticato. 

Ed eccoci quindi al punto di partenza: quando si tratta di stilizzare i capi basici, nessuno lo fa come i francesi.

Ma cos'è un dolcevita?

È un maglione con un collo alto che, rigirato verso il basso, e copre una parte o la maggior parte del collo.

Il dolcevita tradizionale ha sempre il collo ripiegato e generalmente ha una vestibilità slim. 

In genere, la parte del collo del dolcevita è realizzata con una maglia a coste, il corpo, invece, è solitamente in maglia unita.

Il Lupetto invece è considerato il cugino del dolcevita.

It's no secret that some people—French women especially—have something special that makes them look sophisticated no matter what they wear. 

Some call it je ne sais quoi, but we'd argue that it's something else entirely. 

One of the main lessons we're often still trying to figure out is how exactly they look so stylish, no matter the weather. 

After much research, we've realized they all have a secret weapon: an arsenal of staples. More specifically, during the wintertime, they're always wearing black turtleneck sweaters.

Without fail, you can't scroll through social media without spotting this fall and winter staple (for a good reason). 

A black turtleneck sweater goes with, well, anything. 

Therefore, it makes sense that this knitwear has become a timeless staple in the minds of fashion lovers everywhere—especially when they find themselves at a loss for what to wear in the winter. 

But we'd be lying if we didn't admit that this basic can be, well, a bit boring. 

As the sweater has become synonymous with everyday basics, it's become harder to style it in sophisticated ways. 

Luckily, when it comes to styling staples, no one does it quite like the French.

What Is a Turtleneck?

It's a sweater with a high-rolled collar. 

It's turned down and covers some or most parts of your neck. It's also called a roll-neck or polo neck.

A traditional turtleneck is always folded over and has a slim fitting. 

Typically, the turtleneck part comes with a ribbed knit. The body, though, usually comes in a solid knit.

A mock neck is considered the so-called cousin of your turtleneck. 

These winter pullovers for women cover the neck without being folded over. 

They're usually more flimsy around your neck. Also, they don't drape well when they're folded over.
