la pandemia ci ha dimostrato che ci sono altri modi per festeggiare compleanni, lauree, eventi importanti di vario genere oltre ai classici festoni, e pare proprio che ora ci cimenteremo anche con il Natale. 

Grazie alla tecnologia infatti (e per fortuna) utilizzando qualsiasi app di videoconferenza, possiamo vedere amici e parenti dalla comodità e dalla sicurezza di casa nostra e festeggiare con chi amiamo pur restando a casa. 

Ma vediamo meglio come fare.

• Scegliete la piattaforma
• Scegliere la piattaforma è diventato l'equivalente pandemico di trovare il luogo adatto per la festa, generalmente compito numero 1 di qualunque organizzatore di party. Dal momento che dovremo comunque mantenere le cose in piccolo, il livello gratuito della maggior parte delle piattaforme sarà più che sufficiente, quindi la scelta dipenderà solo da quale app vi piace di più. Zoom ad es. è diventata la classica app di riferimento per gli incontri virtuali durante questo ultimo periodo, quindi è una scelta facile e probabilmente la più naturale. Ricordate solo che con l’account gratuito avete solo 40 minuti per riunione. Questa potrebbe essere tanto una benedizione quanto una maledizione, a seconda che vi stiate divertendo a parlare con le altre persone o se un esercito di caciaroni stia mettendo a dura prova la vostra pazienza. Le alternative più conosciute a Zoom sono Google Meet, Skype, Messenger Rooms di Facebook e FaceTime, ma tutte hanno limitazioni sul numero di persone che possono connettersi contemporaneamente: Skype e Messenger Rooms ne supportano 50, FaceTime 32, Zoom le batte tutte con la possibilità di ospitare fino a 100 invitati, ma il vantaggio di tutte le altre opzioni è che nessuna ha un limite di tempo. Ci sono anche altre funzionalità a cui dovreste prestare attenzione quando scegliete una piattaforma: quanto è bravo il software a identificare chi sta parlando o a riprodurre la musica, la qualità video e se offre sfondi personalizzati, filtri o altri elementi aggiuntivi. Esplorate le varie opzioni per trovare quella più adatta alla vostra festa (e ai vostri ospiti).
• Aiutate gli inesperti
• Dovete tenere presente che non tutti saranno così esperti di tecnologia, soprattutto le persone più avanti con l'età. E’ vero che molto porbabilmente a questo punto molti di noi avranno già insegnato ai genitori, nonni e / o amici poco esperti di tecnologia ad utilizzare le app di videoconferenza, ma non potete comunque presumere che tutti gli invitati sappiano come far funzionare quella app che vi piace così tanto, o che al momento è la più popolare. Dopo aver scelto la "sede" del party, assicuratevi quindi di allegare qualche istruzione agli inviti e non limitatevi ad incollare semplicemente il link al sito web di supporto: dedicate del tempo a spiegare, con parole semplici, come rendere operativa la piattaforma. Potreste anche dovervi rendere disponibili per rispondere a qualche domanda prima della festa: è una scocciatura, ma è necessario. Infine, chiedete ai vostri ospiti di scaricare e provare in anticipo il software di cui hanno bisogno in modo che abbiano tempo per risolvere eventuali problemi: se già avete una quantità di tempo limitata per il vostro evento, non vorrete sicuramente spenderne la metà a combattere contro il malfunzionamento del microfono o della telecamera di qualcuno mentre il resto dei partecipanti aspetta.
• Create hype per l’evento
• Infine cercate di mantenere vivo l'hype per la vostra festa magari inviando un promemoria, creando meme relativi alle feste o, se avete un tema specifico, condividendo contenuti ad esso correlati. Now, using whatever video conferencing app your heart prefers, you can see your friends and familiar from the comfort and safety of your home, and party like it’s 1999.

So let's take a look on how to start.

• Choose a platform
• This would be the pandemic equivalent of finding a venue, which may be a party planner’s No. 1 task. Since we’re keeping things small, the free tier of most platforms will be more than enough, so which one you choose depends on which one you like best. Zoom has become the classic go-to app for virtual gatherings during the pandemic, so it’s an easy, natural choice. Just remember that if you’re not paying for an account, you only get 40 minutes per meeting. This could be as much of a blessing as a curse, depending on whether you’re having a nice time talking to people, or if an army of toddlers is putting your patience to the test. Alternatives to Zoom are Google Meet, Skype, Facebook’s Messenger Rooms, and FaceTime, but they all have limitations as to how many people can connect at once, while Skype and Messenger Rooms support 50. FaceTime will let you gather 32. Zoom beats them all with the ability to host up to 100, but the upside to all of these other options is that none of them have a time limit. There are other features you’ll want to look at when choosing a platform, too: how good it is at identifying who’s talking or playing music, the video quality, and if it allows customized backdrops, filters, or other add-ons. Explore your options to find the one that suits your party (and your guests) best.
• Be mindful of the not-so tech savvy
• At this point, many of us have already taught our parents, elders, and/or tech-repelling friends how to work video conferencing apps. But you still can’t assume everyone on your guest list knows how to work that obscure video conferencing app you like so much, or even the most popular ones. Once you’ve chosen your “venue,” make sure to enclose some instructions when sending your invites. And don’t just paste a link to the support website—take your time to explain, in your own words, how to get the platform up and running. You might even have to make yourself available to answer questions prior to the party. Finally, ask your guests to download and try whatever software they need in advance so there’s time to solve problems. If you have a limited amount of time for your event, you won’t want to spend half of it fighting against someone’s malfunctioning mic while the rest of your guests wait.
• Keep the hype alive
• Get some hype going by sending reminders, making party-related memes, or, if you have a theme, sharing content related to it. You can also share a pre-game playlist or have your guests prepare something for the event.
