OOTD: Giving New Life to Old Clothes

Come Dare Nuova Vita a Vecchi Capi d'Abbigliamento

Svuotare e riordinare gli armadi può dare lo spunto per un’altra attività che si può fare in casa, utile e che impegna anche parecchio: dare nuova vita a vecchi capi (possibilmente a quelli di alta qualità).

Mia mamma ad esempio, nello svuotare e ripulire gli armadi ha recentemente riesumato dei vecchi tailleur Chanel di mia nonna.

Sinceramente quando io li vedevo indossati da mia nonna mi sembravano normali, ma avendoli provati ora mi sono resa conto che le taglie erano stranissime (o lo era mia nonna…?): sono strettissimi in vita e larghissimi sui fianchi, hanno le maniche corte e le spalle strette e la gonna invece è lunga ben oltre il ginocchio (e mia nonna era pure più bassa di me), insomma in poche parole, sono immettibili.

Tenerli così sarebbe un inutile spreco di spazio, ma chi ha il coraggio di buttare uno Chanel d’epoca?

Quindi con mia mamma abbiamo pensato di provare a dare una modernizzata ( o meglio, io ho pensato e lei ha lavorato) ad uno di loro, a dire il vero l’operazione si è rivelata più lunga e molto più complicata del previsto dato che ha dovuto smontare e rimontare giacca e gonna con fodera e tutto, però devo dire che alla fine ne è valsa la pena: la giacca è venuta benissimo, dalla gonna invece ne ha ricavato un vestitino che sarebbe pure carino ma sinceramente lo trovo un po’ difficile da indossare… Voi che ne pensate?

Insomma, se non avete idee per passare il tempo, io vi suggerisco di provare a dare nuova vita a capi vecchi o che non vi piacciono più: potreste imparare a cucire e allo stesso tempo magari ne esce qualcosa di carino!
E se va male, pazienza, tanto erano comunque capi da buttare!

Decluttering and cleaning your wardrobe can also give you a chance for another activity that can be done at home in this period, useful and that also involves a lot: giving new life to old (high quality) clothes.

For example, my mom, in cleaning her wardrobes, recently exhumed some old Chanel two pieces that belonged to my grandmother.
Really when I saw them worn by my grandmother they seemed normal to me, but after having tried one now, I realized that the sizes are pretty odd (or was my grandmother ...?): it's very narrow at the waist and very wide on the hips, has short sleeves and narrow shoulders and the skirt is long well beyond the knee (and my granny was even shorter than me), in short, is unwereable.
Keeping them like this would be a useless waste of space, but who’d dare to throw away a vintage Chanel? 

So with my mom we thought of trying to try to refresh one (or rather, I thought and she worked).   

The work turned out to be longer and much more complicated than expected since she had to disassemble and reassemble jacket and skirt with the lining and everything, but I must say that in the end it worth it: the jacket came out very well, from the skirt instead she got a mini dress that would be even very nice, but honestly I find it a little difficult to wear ... what do you think about?
In short, if you have no ideas on how to spend this time in lockdown, I suggest you try to give new life to old clothes or to clothing that you don't like anymore: you could learn to sew and at the same time maybe something nice could come out! 

And if it goes bad, patience, at least they were pieces to throw away anyway!
