My Summer in Greece: Paxos & Mediterranean Greek Coast

Ultimo appuntamento con i post sulle mie vacanze in Grecia: oggi vi parlo del primo e dell'ultimo posto in cui siamo stati:

Paxos e le coste occidentali della Grecia da Parga a Igoumenitsa.

Iniziamo con Paxos: è l'isoletta più vicina a Corfù ed è molto simile a questa sia per natura che come strutture, anche se forse è leggermente più alla moda.
Ha diverse spaiggette ed insenature carine in cui farsi il bagno, e c'è un punto in cui il mare è salatissimo!
L'acqua lì è proprio luccicante, ma esci talmente ricoperta di sale che appena ti asciughi praticamente friggi! In commpenso una volta fatta la doccia la pelle è liscissima!
Il posto più bello dove fare il bagno però è Antipaxos, un'isoletta piccolissima e disabitata tutta verde vicina a Paxos, raggiungibile solo in barca, lì il mare è azzurrissimo e pieno di pesci! :D






Last appointment with the posts about my vacation in Greece: today I'll talk you of the first and last place we landed:

Paxos and the western coasts of Greece from Parga to Igoumenitsa. 

Paxos is a little island closest to Corfu and is very similar to it, both in nature and structures, although perhaps slightly more fashionable. 
There are several nice little beaches and coves in which to bathe, including one in which the sea is super salty!  
The water there is really shiny, but when you go out covered with salt and you dry out under the sun, your skin practically fry! But once showered the skin is very smooth! 
Anyway the most beautiful place to swim is Antipaxos, a small island close to Paxos, approachable only by boat, there the sea is deep blue and full of fish! : D

PAXOS & ANITPAXOS

Dopo aver lasciato Corfù, gli ultimi giorni li abbiamo trascorsi visitando 

le coste occidentali della Grecia 

che non avevamo ancora mai visto: praticamente da subito sotto l'Albania fino al porto di Igoumentisa.
Rispetto a Corfù bisogna amettere che lì sia il mare che l'entroterra sono meno spettacolari, anche se il mare è altrettanto bello gli mancano tutte le sfumature di colore dell'isola, e soprattutto non c'è quel contrasto netto tra il blu dell'acqua ed il verde intensissimo della costa, essendo la Grecia molto più arida e brulla.


After leaving Corfu, the we have spent many days visiting 

the western coast of Greece 

that we've never visitedbefore: almost immediately beneath Albania until the port of Igoumenitsa. 
Compared to Corfu I have to admit that there the sea and the inland area are less spectacular than in Corfu, although the sea is still very beautiful, lacks all shades of color of the island, and above all there is the stark contrast between the deep blue of 'water and the deep green of the coast, being Greece much more dry and barren.

Però anche qui c'è un posto favoloso che non ha nulla da invidiare a Paradise Beach a Paleokastritsa: si tratta di 

Blue Lagoon a Bella Vraka

E' un sogno: si tratta di un golfo in un'isoletta verdissima e disabitata proprio vicina a Sivota, con una spiaggetta che si prolunga in mezzo al mare in una specie di istmo di sabbia bianchissima.
E' pieno zeppo di pesci enormi lì perchè è una riserva naturale, e sembra che in certi periodi dell'anno i delfini stiano lì in pianta stabile (ovviamente quando ci sono andata io non c'erano se no adesso starei ancora lì)!
Purtroppo però, anche se è raggiungibile solo in barca, è un posto abbastanza noto e quindi c'erano dverse imbarcazioni, ed essendo anche abbastanza piccolo risultava un pò affollato.

Blue Lagoon on Bella Vraka 

It 's a dream: a gulf in a verdant little island just close to Sivota, with a beach that extends into the sea like a isthmus of white sand. 
It 'full of huge fish because is a natural reserve, and it seems that in the fall the dolphins are there on a permanent basis (of course there aren't when I went there, or I would still be there)! 
Unfortunately, although it is accessible only by boat, it is a fairly well-known place and so there were many boats, and since the gulf is pretty small,  seemed a little crowded. 

 

My Summer In Greece: Paleokastritsa (Corfu)

Dato che, come avrete capito io sono totalmente innamorata delle Grecia, ed in particolare dell'isola di Corfù, potete immaginare con quanto entusiasmo ne parli subito dopo una vacanza del genere!
Però ho notato che almeno la metà delle persone che c'è stata non ha avuto la mia stessa impressione.
Ora, mi rendo conto che non tutti abbiamo gli stessi gusti, che Corfù non è certo il posto ideale per chi desidera una vacanza all'insegna della moda e della mondanità, che le strade sono terribili (secondo me sono l'unico vero aspetto negativo dell'isola, sono veramente un casino) e che molti dei posti più belli non sono agevolissimi da raggiungere, però ora ditemi voi

come si fa ad andare in un posto come Paleokastritsa e non innamorarsene!

Il mare è di un colore incredibile, passa dall'azzurro ad un blu zaffiro, pienissimo di pesci e di grotte da eplorare liberamente a nuoto o in barca con riflessi spettacolari, circondato da scogliere ricoperte di vegetazione fittissima... Beh siamo rimasti lì 3 giorni ed io sono stata capace di stare in acqua 3ore e 1/2 di fila!





Cause, as you see, I'm totally in love with Greece, and in particular with the island of Corfu, you can imagine how eagerly I talk about it after such a holiday! 
But I noticed that at least half of the people with whom I happened to talk about, that went there, not had my own impression. 
Now, I well know that everyone has own tastes, that Corfu is not the ideal place for those who want a fashion and mondly vacation, that the roads are terrible (I think they are the only real downside of the island, are really a mess), and that many of the most beautiful places are not very easy to reach, but now tell me, 

 how does someone go to a place like Paleokastritsa and not fall in love! 

The sea is an amazing color, changes from aquamarine to blue sapphire, very full of fish and caves to freely explore swimming or on boat with spectacular reflections, surrounded by cliffs covered with dense dar green vegetation ... Well we stayed there 3 days and I was able to stay in the water and 1/2 to 3 hours in a row!

 Paleokastritsa è, come succede spesso a Corfù, concentrata su una piccola penisola con due golfi ai lati, dove si trovano due spiaggette, e poi prosegue lungo la costa nord occidentale con una serie di grotte, calette ed insenature per la maggior parte raggiungibili solo in barca: sulla cima del promontorio che si trova sulla penisoletta c'è

il monastero ortodosso di Paleokastritsa, probabilmente il luogo più caratteristico di tutta l'isola.

E' tutto bianco costruito su diversi livelli collegati da arcate e scalette, e pieno, pienissimo gattini e di fiori e piante di tutti i tipi possibili!
Da lì c'è anche un sentiero in mezzo alla vegetazione che porta proprio in punta alla scogliera da cui si vedono entrambi i lati della penisola e si può ammirare al meglio il mare in tutte le sue sfumature!
Noi c'eravamo già andati l'anno scorso, ma non abbiamo esitato a ripetere l'esperienza anche quest'anno!





Paleokastritsa is, as often happens in Corfu, placedd on a small peninsula with two bays on either sides, where there are two little beaches, and then continue along the northwest coast with many caves, inlets for most reachable only by boat: on the point of the promontory which is on the peninsula, there is the 

Orthodox monastery of Paleokastritsa, probably the most characteristic of the island.

It's all white, built on different levels connected by arches and stairs, and full, very full of kittens and flowers and plants of all kinds possible! 
From there there is a path through the vegetation that leads just at the tip of the cliff from which you can see both sides of the peninsula, and you can enjoy at the best the sea in all its nuances! 
We'd already went there last year, but we did not hesitate to repeat the experience this year!

E passiamo al punto più bello di Paleokastrisa (ed uno dei più belli di tutta l'isola): Paradise Beach.

In qualsiasi località di mare, ovunque si trovi, c'è sempre un posto che si chiama Paradise Beach, Paradise coast, paradise Bay o simili, ma questo fa veramente onore al suo nome!
E' una piccola caletta di sassetti bianchissimi raggiungibile solo con la barca, insinuata tra scogliere a picco fatte di lastroni e piene di caverne ed anfratti, con un mare totalmente trasparente a riva e che diventa verde acqua prima e poi blu intenso al largo.
Se andate sott'acqua a qualche centinaio di metri dalla riva  sembra di stare immersi in uno zaffiro: l'acqua è talmente profonda che non si vede il fondo e tutt'intorno c'è solo mare blu!
L'unico problema è la totale mancanza di zone all'ombra sulla riva per gran parte della giornata (e noi ci siamo andati con 40° e sole a picco), ci sono delle grotticelle sulla spiaggetta, ma stare lì dentro era come stare in una sauna! Per fortuna però il mare non è per niente freddo e a pochi metri c'è subito una bella grotta nell'acqua in cui ripararsi ( ma stando a mollo come un cocomero).

Now let's talk about the most beautiful point of Paleokastrisa (and of all the island): Paradise Beach. 

At any seaside, wherever you are, there is almost always a place called Paradise Beach, Paradise Coast, Paradise Bay or similar but that's really up to its name! 
It 'a small cove very white reachable only by boat, crept between cliffs totally made of slabs of rock and full of caves and ravines, with a totally transparent sea at the shore that beecame aquamarine at first and then sapphire blue off. 
If you go under water a few hundred meters from the shore seems to be immersed in a sapphire: the water is so deep that you can not see the bottom and all around there is only blue sea! 
The only problem is the total lack of shaded areas on the bank, for most of the day (and we were there with 40 ° C and blazing sun), there are small caves on the beach, but stay there is like being in a sauna! Fortunately, however, the sea is not at all cold and in a few meters there is a beautiful cave in the water where you can shelter.

Per finire qualche parola su Angelokastro, 

che è un castello tardo bizantino/ medievale proprio in cima alla montagna alle spalle di Paleokastritsa (Corfù è praticamente tutta una montagna nell'entroterra).
Arrivarci è un massacro sia con la macchina (le strade sono strette, ripide, piene di buche e a dirupo, senza gurde rail e praticamente senza segnaletica) sia a piedi per raggiungere il castello ( anche per i 40° costanti ed il sole a picco che ci hanno accompagnato per tutto il tempo), ma la vista è mozzafiato!!!



To end a few words about Angelokastro,  
which is a castle late Byzantine / medieval just up the mountain behind Paleokastritsa (Corfu is almost entirely mountainous in the hinterland). 
Getting there is a massacre before with car (the roads are narrow, steep, potholed and without gurde rail and almost no signs) and then to walk to the castle (even for 40 °C constant and the sun beating), but the view is really breathtaking !!!
